Last week, our Green Agenda for Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine project team, along with representatives from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), visited Tbilisi for a series of consultative meetings.

Discussions were held with the project’s key stakeholders such as the Georgian Government, the Ministry of Environment, the Swedish Embassy, the EU Delegation and other relevant parties.

The meetings provided an opportunity to update participants on the project's progress and its preliminary findings related to the countries' readiness for a green transition in sectors such as climate, energy, smart mobility, buildings and renovation, industry, zero pollution, farm-to-fork and biodiversity; as well as critical cross-cutting issues such as financing for transition, digitalization, social impact, research and development and innovation. They also focused on outlining the framework for finalizing Georgia's national assessment, which will contribute to the strategic vision for the country's green transition.

“At SEI, it is crucial that our initiatives facilitate the delivery of successful green reforms, helping the country to align more closely with the European Union. Specifically for Georgia, this includes assisting in its European accession process and becoming a fully integrated partner in trade and other sectors,” stated
Bernardas Padegimas, Team Lead of the Environmental Policy and Strategy Team at SEI Headquarters.

The meetings yielded important highlights, including updates on new climate-focused initiatives, local air quality and transport-related projects, green transition policies, and reform priorities.

The Administration of Government expressed support for the Green Agenda project, and it is committed to implement the Association Agreement and align with Green Deal objectives. Discussions at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture revolved around the project progress and capacity-building support, among others in promoting environmental education and communication.

The meetings underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing environmentally sustainable practices and promoting the green transition agenda.
